The Cuban Grassquit (Tiaris canorus) is a small finch-like bird, easily recognizable by its olive-green upperparts, yellowish underparts, and a striking black face mask with a contrasting white throat. Males are usually more vibrant in color compared to females. It’s native to Cuba, where it inhabits open woodlands, scrublands, and grassy areas. It can also be found on some nearby islands. The bird is well-adapted to various environments, including human-altered landscapes like plantations and gardens. They are social birds, often found in small flocks, and have a melodious song that makes them popular in aviculture.
